Hepatitis B and hepatitis C affect 325 million people globally. While Australia has made significant advances in the response to hepatitis B in recent years, the illness remains a serious public health challenge. According to the latest Hepatitis B Mapping Project National Report, 61% of people living with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) were born overseas.

1 in 13 Chinese people are living with Hepatitis B or C virus. If left untreated, hepatitis B and C can lead to liver damage and liver cancer. On World Hepatitis Day, M-CAN hosted a community education session for the Chinese community. The main aim of the session was to help build knowledge in the community about Hepatitis B prevention and treatment.

The session was well received by the community members and was a great success. The participants found this to be a useful and helpful experience.

Here is what they had to say:

“Excellent session! The presenter was very good and gave very clear presentation. Also, having the session in our own language – Mandarin – made it simple and easy to understand.”

“I came away feeling more informed and confident about Hepatitis B.”

M-CAN member, Ting Zhou and Wen Liu said:

“We learned a lot ourselves and we are grateful to CEH and M-CAN for providing us with this opportunity.”
