New year’s resolutions have never been my thing. I believe in change that happens over time. By taking the time to self-reflect, grow awareness and make small shifts, we can create a big outcome. In 2022, many days have passed skilfully helping clients, doing straight up hard work, and hopefully a few laughs with colleagues too. Now, it’s time to pause and rest.

Whether short or long, I sincerely hope you get the chance to relax, re-energise and re-centre. Perhaps alongside enjoying time with friends and family or getting away you could take a moment to reflect on what you’ve achieved in 2022. Consider your wins for the year. If you saw an opportunity for growth and you took it, then good on you!

CEH training team reflection for the year

We’re thrilled to have delivered training for so many fantastically skilled workers and professionals this year. They don’t need a resolution to drastically shift their work practices, they’re already incredibly skilled. They just need some structured reflection on their current practices and practical frameworks and tools to make small shifts to maximise their effectiveness. We’ve learnt so much from our participants this year. We hope we’ve helped them work better with their migrant and refugee clients. We also hope we’ve made their jobs easier and more satisfying.

We asked workers what they took from our sessions

This is what they said:

  • After asking the right questions, my client left with a more thorough understanding of how to get better
  • I realised a situation was out of my cultural comfort zone so I asked for help
  • The 5 step process for using an interpreter is great
  • Resources on cultural preferences are now easier to find
  • Knowing more about my history has helped me to see different perspectives

What one worker said about their experience:

“Clients from migrant and refugee backgrounds need extra time and effort to ensure they get the quality service that they deserve. After applying what I have learnt in cultural competence, I am making a bigger difference to these clients.”

At CEH, our trainers lead sessions with you in mind. We focus on a reflective approach where we encourage you to access the expert knowledge you have and just stretch it a little further and a little higher. We’re developing what is known as an inner witness. Have you been to one of our sessions and left thinking, that is a skill I can use? The light bulb moment may have come with a client interaction where you incorporated a new tool and it felt positive and impactful.
